Feus Cottage

A remodelled and extended cottage for an illustrator and family. A series of new garden-facing rooms create a sense of openness, light and space. Stepping out in plan, the largest of these forms a bay window, allowing oblique views to the outside, and a bright space for the family dining table.

Auchterader, Scotland

The exterior timber is coated in bitumen paint, typically used for waterproofing the hull of boats. This provides a long-lasting protective coating, as well as an inky-black surface finish that absorbs light in unusual and beautiful ways.
